Its funny, I hated plasma on kubuntu. Felt slow and seemed like constant bugs. But on Bazzite, now Cachy, its amazing.

Science@lemmy.ml•Vast Hidden Structure Discovered Beneath AntarticaEnglish
2·3 months agoSecond stargate location confirmed.
I started learning C++ in high school compsci class decades ago. I still havent mastered it.
Probably because I never did any programming again after that one semester. But who knows?
That Roman road also didn’t have 1000s of multi-ton vehicles rolling over it every day.
I think a lot of what I hear from western media is communism fear mongering propaganda. But I also think that there are kernels of truth in some of it. China is a large country that I have no doubt is doing a lot of good stuff and a lot of awful stuff. Just like the USA does good stuff and awful stuff.

Science@mander.xyz•What would happen if Yellowstone's 'supervolcano' erupted today?English
0·4 months agoWhen I went to visit Yellowstone NP years ago, a friend I told about the upcoming trip asked me if I knew about the super volcano and, wasn’t I worried it might erupt while I was there? My response was of course its obviously very low odds it would happen. But if it did erupt, I would much rather be right on top of it and die almost instantly rather than die slowly and painfully over the next few months or years like the rest of North America.
“But with socialized medicine there will be government death panels deciding who does or doesn’t get life saving care.”
We literally have corporate death panels at insurance companies deciding who does or doesn’t get life saving care. Hell, most of the time its not even a panel. Its one sleazy sadistic doctor who is paid lots of money to deny everything he can.
Pay me enough to thrive, not just survive.
I appreciate the thorough replies from both you and @OurToothbrush@lemmy.ml
I guess the gist is that on paper the Kims are not the absolute ruling family in the DPRK. It just seems that way from the outside due to the veneration they have among their people. Every western power really does seem to think Kim Jong Un is fully the head of state there. So its hard to not think the truth is somewhere in between.
Even if they really are legitimately elected. The whole concept of a family lineage of power makes me uncomfortable. I feel the same way about the Kennedys, Bushs, Clintons, etc.
I’m willing to be open minded that a lot of shit I have heard about the DPRK is tainted by, or is straight up western propaganda. But is the hereditary dictatorship (essentially an absolute monarchy) in the DPRK one of the “some problems?”
Or is there a .ML justification for it? It really seems like a major problem that is incompatible with the goals and ideals of communism to me.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What is really likely to happen to you if you use an OS that doesn't comply with age verification laws.
1·5 months agoI don’t even understand how this is supposed to protect kids from child predators. Do child predators not want to hang out online where they can interact with kids? So not having age verification enabled keeps you siloed to where the kids are… Meaning if anything it helps predators pretend to be kids better.
Now claiming it as a way to protect kids from porn… I guess makes more sense. Because we all know that sketchy porn sites care about laws.

Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ to End With Season 2 (EXCLUSIVE)English
9·5 months agoThat’s a shame. There were certainly parts about the show I could nitpick, it is far from perfect. But I enjoyed it. Glad to at least get a season 2.
With a combination of Microslop pushing users a way, and fewer people even having laptops/PCs in favor of just using their phones, I see that 10% happening pretty easily. Its always going to be the business users propping up Windows numbers.
Was this supposed to be in c/aneurysm posting ?

Linux@lemmy.ml•Why is Debian always left out of the distro recommendations?English
6·7 months agoI spent most of last year running LMDE6 and while it started off good, things just got more frustrating to troubleshoot and the system felt buggier over time. (Which I know is not how things are supposed to be for “stable” Debian.) Switched to CachyOS a couple months ago and things work so much smoother.

2·7 months agoYeah I only have that quest 2 because it was free. I would like to only stream PCVR titles to it to minimize meta usage. At least until the steam frame comes out.
