Up until recently I worked for a company worth anything, and you would be surprised at how many major outages were caused by either skipping the process or gaps in the process.
You know that adage: “the safety rules are written in blood”? The same is true for change processes, just with a cost measured in dollars instead of human injury/worse.

Technology@lemmy.world•Data center noise at Great Oak community outside Manassas, Virginia.English
0·2 months agoI used to work for a company where we were in the data centers constantly, either deploying new machines or servicing others. Definitely not the norm, and way overstaffed compared to other companies. But, it made sense given their business model.
Anyway, working in the hot aisles is miserable when you have to do a bunch of cabling work (about 60% of the copper we ran was cut and tipped to length). It also sucked working on equipment at the tops of our racks as ours were like 56U high. Ear protection was must-have, I used noise cancelling headphones but a lot of guys didn’t even use ear plugs.
I asked the man in the tan jacket and he gestures vaguely at his deerskin suitcase but I can’t remember anything else…

Technology@lemmy.world•Majority of Android users aren't sold on Gemini Intelligence, survey revealsEnglish
1·3 months agoGemini has now replaced the default “dumb” assistant in android auto. On my drive home from picking my daughter up from preschool, she wanted to listen to Golden from KPOP Demon Hunters. Gemini gave me several sentences about how much it liked the song, then asked if I needed anything else. Then it failed to actually start the song playing. Half of the time it assumes I’m asking it to play a video on YouTube and says it can’t do that while driving, so I have to specify to play using my music app.

Yeah, we’re back to the days of websites only supporting Internet Explorer because of proprietary features and weird quirks.
In addition to percentage based fines levied against the business, I feel that executives, board members, and major voting shareholders also need to face legal consequences.
Hm, sounds like 20% would make for a good deterrent, then.
Modern Corelle is breakable crap. Gotta get older stuff.
