Is there an Anna’s Archive for LLMs yet?

I’d argue the opposite: because AI was certainly trained on massive amounts of copyleft code, all AI- generated code should be copyleft only, and under the most strict terms, just to be safe.

Another fucking slap on the wrist. “The payment will be distributed in annual instalments over a 10-year period.” It’s literally a rounding error for them. I assume this is the same lawsuit as the teen addiction one, where the states had asked for $1.4T in damages - in which case this would amount to literally 1% of the request and add insult to injury.

But also more anxiety, shorter attention spans, and brain rot.
(According to my own anecdotal evidence)

Can they please “fuel a push” for indictments instead?

(I just picked June 4 1989 randomly, ofc.) 🤣

Considering how much damage Google et al do, I legitimately wonder whether China could even do worse, and I’m not even a tankie.

My vote: Moxie Marlinspike
Having just dropped a kid off at college, I will tell you: the platitudes you’ve heard from others the whole time you’ve been a parent are all correct. It DOES go fast. They ARE the best times. You WILL look back on them fondly.

This would be highly efficient.

Yeah that’s what I’m saying. Even if you’re not using one of the big providers there’s a good chance they’re going to be at least handing it on its way to your self-hosted inbox, and its contents are unencrypted while they’re handling it (unless you encrypt the contents yourself). So there’s not much benefit to self hosting email if your goal is to keep your data out of big tech’s hands (and if that is your goal, don’t send anything important with email)

I might be out of the loop on how email works, but doesn’t it hop between several other email servers on its way from Alice to Bob (and at least some of it must still be unencrypted)? If so and given google’s scale you could probably just assume that even if they’re not your inbox they’re going to be at least handling many if not most emails along the way.

The data is all there, the vendor they were using to manage the storage just went OOB, and they’re not yet being allowed to retrieve it from the vendor’s storage vendor, Iron Mountain:
The lawsuit filed in Denver District Court alleges that the station’s cloud-storage vendor, Open Source Storage, abruptly cut off access to Nine PBS’ data earlier this year without warning. It states OSS, which had a separate relationship with Iron Mountain to provide data storage, went “defunct,” leaving Nine PBS’ archives in a data center operated by Iron Mountain.

Sapiens is so heavily overfitted that I almost couldn’t finish it the first time I read it through. You could say the same about Dawn of Everything , except that Dawn 's purpose was to show that there were not just counterexamples for many generally accepted things, but in some cases new evidence that totally overturns some of that “common knowledge.”

One of my favorite books. Though I have to read it with 10 Wikipedia tabs opened.

I don’t like this headline. A human from 60,000 years ago would be anatomically identical to a modern human, brain included, so of course they mind would be able to produce sophisticated ideas. A better headline would have been about there are few examples of abstract mathematics from that long ago.
I will be using “tendentious hellscape” in all of my meeting notes going forward. Thank you.

Not true. I just shouted “ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME” and now people are looking in my direction and whispering.

The ponies I’ve met have all been right bastards, so this tracks.
If you’re into self hosting at all check out caliber-web, which uses a calibre-compatible db/backend but a web-based fronted. I switched about 3 years ago after importing my old calibre db and never looked back (household is doing around 90 books/year)
