I got the warlock expansion for D2 on bnet using my card on file, which expired several years earlier and I just never updated.
Charge said it went through, I have access to expansion content, but I never had a corresponding charge on my bank account. I think I got an email about it, but I ignored it. Still have access, no apparent evidence of payment, and there’s no negative balance on my bnet account that I’ve found.
I think I just got the game for free by using an expired CC?

Companies are trying to prevent people switching jobs to get raises by creating a central database of all employees and their salaries. That way, when you try to find a new job they can pull up your salary history and not accidentally give you a 40% bump when your desperation factor clearly shows you’ll settle for 10%.
I assume adp is just one of those companies doing this, and you opt out by not participating in the economy.

That reason is nobody has ever dumped a shitload of cash into it because it was cheaper to just buy from the company that already figured it out.
The difference being that there is (theoretically) more citizen control when it comes to governments.
That’s the biggest difference between government and corporations. Governments are (theoretically) responsible for every person that resides in their established territory. Corporations are responsible only for those they deem financially viable.
I just don’t think it was possible back then. Not enough internet bandwidth/integration.
Now, cloud gaming is just another use case/revenue stream for data centers.
