You know that Fediverse is decentralized, right? Lots of instance barely have anything American, especially Asian instance.

My point is that due to British colonialization, English is now a diverse language that have diverse new word and regional meaning.
GIMP in English Asia doesn’t have bad connotation. Not in Singaporean English, not in Indian English.
Making one standard of English is just reeks language colonialism.
If you actually follow the dev, they don’t seem to prioritize PSD or even trying to be a Photoshop clone at all :)
It’s just that when a feature get introduced, a new feature from other format get supported. Such as upcoming vector layer and shape tool.
I believe jack-of-all-trades of images is actually a good thing. All newer image editor, whether FOSS or proprietary are jack-of-all trades, like Graphite or Affinity You just can’t confined people just to use raster layer, and not vector layer. Or using multiple app just to do some image editing.
The problem is not jack-of-all-trades itself, but finding a good UI/UX to make it not complex for all user.
“It doesn’t necessarily need to be that going forward”
This part does not make any sense. Making GIMP to be able to support any image format is a good thing. Especially for future file preservation.
If it was merely industry standard, if a software already good, people will just use the default format. It already happen with various industries, like comic making in Asia using .CLIP (Clip Studio Paint) instead of .PSD
Different project scope tho.
Krita does not support random niche format like GIMP.
English is diverse language and each regional English have their own offensive world that have different meaning in different English speaking area.
Maybe you should meet more Indian English speaker and Singaporean English speaker. Heck, Australian English invent various offensive word.
It’s not about not using PSD.
GIMP is all about letting people to open and edit any image files. Whether it is a medical images format (DICOM), bitmap image only used on smart message, (Nokia’s Over The Air Bitmap), to open experimental niche format (Jeff’s Image Format).
Recommending ffmpeg to CapCut user seems not exactly correct lol

Europe tech often times are open source with commercial service.
At least it’s better than whatever Google, Microsoft, or Tencent.

This project is not “Nextcloud” only. There are eight vendors competing on Nextcloud also contributing.
That even negative connotation is slowly being outdated… Especially in English Asia (Singaporean English, Indian English, etc) where it never have any negative meaning.
Seen school and orgs just casually mentioning GIMP.

hehe, nice to see people here actually recognize the food, not mistaken it as another thing, as it happened previously.

That’s just system default theme on Windows

My default theme looks perfectly fine…

Edit: this is the default system theme on Windows, tried the other theme and it also looks awful.
Krita might be too complex for MS Paint users.
There’s Kolour Paint which is more of clone of MS Paint.
KolourPaint is “clone” of MS Paint. GIMP is never meants as Paint alternative.

USAmerica is just corrupt country that non-profit is just a way to avoid taxes.
Most of parts of the world won’t let non-profit to be turned that way.

Discord is also big because of fandom culture. From anime, idol, musics, tech, sports, learning, etc. There are type of communication that only possible on Discord. Telegram, WhatsApp, Line, or any chat apps cannot replace these approach. That’s why so many software right now trying to immitate them.
All data collection are not even implemeted due to community backlash…
