Man it was what the previous console generation when Sony was dunking on M$ for similar anti-consumer bullshit? Amazing how the turns have tabled.
Such a shame it’s too late this time. Disc-to-digital is a fantastic feature but basically irrelevant given how few Xbox discs there are out there compared to PlayStation. I’m sure the 12 remaining Xbox gamers are going to love this but I doubt it’ll make any difference to Xbox’s struggles.
I don’t get why this is being supported, we know Microsoft hasn’t gotten better about consumer protection. I wholly expect this to be damage control on the “own your games” crowd.
“We’re not that guy, now why don’t you have a free game rental for being a loyal customer. Isn’t that nice? Isn’t that so much more convenient than having to get up and put that touchy old disc in? Isn’t it great that you don’t have to go outside to get a new game? Don’t even have to wait for it to come in the mail! We’d never betray you, loyal consumer, we love you for more than just your money.”
Mark my words, the next Xbox will tout the “full digital experience” as the way of the future. By the time it happens, “benefits” like this will have turned all the customers currently on the fence into a fine frog soup and the number of us that didn’t boil won’t make a blip on the graph.
