got a great deal at an estate sale, i9-9900k, 32gb ddr4, rtx 2070 for $350.
I started with debian but unfortunately it’s an Nvidia card. the big thing I want to try with this thing is emulating bloodborne, and maybe local AI models so performance is key.
will I be fine with debian or are the packages just too old?
edit: lmao debian wouldn’t boot or even successfully launch the terminal in recovery mode after installing the nvidia drivers so fuck that I switched to kubuntu since it’s what I have experience with it worked as expected beep boop bop. thank you for your suggestions everyone!
this is my first time with a prebuilt and it’s weird working with someone else’s HW choices. ugh the RAM rgb can’t be switched off I might try to mod it.
I don’t have a ton of experience with different distros, I’ve probably tried out 5-6, but I was a fedora user for several years. After a string of headaches, I switched to Mint, and the experience has been wonderful. I was avoiding it because its a “beginner” os, but honestly its been so nice having something that just works every time. On the same PC, apps which would freeze my system run smoothly, there’s no buggy little quirks like buttons that don’t work, so far everything I’ve tried installing on it works great, including docker which I could not get to work on fedora, also was able to easily install graphene os which would not work on fedora (and I bricked my machine trying).
