I hold the middle ground. When set up properly, the services do tend to work just fine when left alone. Consumers often have automatic updates enabled, that is where shit hits the fan sometimes. Better is subjective. What you describe could well be one of the factions in the Star Trek universe. You are telling a story from a slightly different perspective – an even more nonviolent one.
