I was issued a laptop with 32GB for standard office work. 15 years ago our devs had 128GB. Of course, that was before COVID and AI insanity.

What most people don’t do is drive many vehicles. The difference between safety features on cars - and it’s not always price that is the differentiator - is staggering. Stability control isn’t the same between a Toyota and a BMW. Not halfway. A $90,000 GM and a $15,000 smart car are generations apart - the smart wins, at least on traction control. Unfortunately it’s not easy to test all these features empirically.

It’s no wonder people turn it off.

A former manager had team lunches every month. It wasn’t mandatory but it was a day that we could go in and team members would be there. It was also not a day taken up with general business update meetings and the like, so we could get work done.

The key is ensuring that people know when they can go in and see other people they know, not just the marketing team.

HR drone always talks about how nice it is to see everyone collaborating in the office when we come in for quarterly meetings.

Nobody is getting work done. We’re all “collaborating” about sportsball or coffee machines or whatever it is, or just trying to tune it out. It’s a full day of productivity lost for nearly everyone there. Not to mention the early rise for a commute, cost of the commute, missed workouts, and exhaustion on the return home.

I’ve got Pfsense installed on a device with 6 RJ45 ports. 0 is wan, 1 is lan0, 2 is lan1, etc up to 4. Why I have multiple lans is somewhat tangential.

One day it rebooted due to a power outage and WAN worked but lan1 and 2 and 3+ were messed up. I’m still not entirely sure what happened, but the second physical Ethernet port was non responsive at boot and Pfsense just assigned the ports as if it never existed. I moved all the cables over one except LAN and it worked just fine. Except that of course in the troubleshooting i had moved all the assignments around and broke it thoroughly, so it took a while.

100x, in much the same way that a team of 100 interns will. AI useful but lacking context.

I made three financial decisions in 2019 that I regret. Two were related to major purchases that have held 2x value post Covid. The third is selling a car that was borderline classic I just wanted space back. It was a rust bucket I keep saying but now they’re going for 10x what I sold for.

The USA has the world’s oldest written constitution and is the third oldest government in the world. China is a relatively young country.

The legal structure of a country has a large impact on how it functions.

None of the chips built for datacentres are useful for gaming. None of the RAM in these chips is useful for normal computing - even servers - much less home gaming.

AI compute believes it’s still in a “race” so they won’t want to be using previous gen chips unless forced to in some way.

This isn’t the “dark fibre” of the AI bubble. It’s just a future pile of trash.
