Curious why all the down voting. Perhaps I’m a little out of the loop on the subject. I know he was not perfect. God forbid. But the racists focusing and picking on him specifically eventually leading to what happened is something needs to be addressed. And thankfully for the institutions involved it seems they have. But for the wider public. That I have yet to see.

A quick extra addendum for any others to get up to speed.

Last month Cofnas, a self-described “race realist,” accused Arday of plagiarizing parts of his Ph.D. thesis at Liverpool John Moores University.

A.K.A. a racist and bigot.

Liverpool had already Looked over Arday’s PhD and found nothing to revoke it. But Confas couldn’t let that stand and Hyper fixated on it. Stirring up a ton of media attention with the help of the right wing media sphere.

Worse, plenty of academics came out in support of Confas. Which even if you think suspension for his actions was a bit harsh. (Fair enough) No one with his views should have knowingly been in the positions he’s been in the first place. His shameful racist views were no secret.

Mitch is one of the best, most wholesome, funniest stand up comics you will ever likely see. If you haven’t you should. His whole schtick was just himself. A stand up comic with legitimate stage fright and anxiety in crowds. He was an absurd contradiction and made absurdity his brand. Owning it. Watching him on stage he would constantly find ways to avoid starring out at the crowd. The aviator shades. Playing with his hair. At one set he just announced to the crowd that he was gonna turn around for a while. Like it was a bit. But still continued the set without missing a beat. Died of an OD at 37 unfortunately.

Yeah, I mean my usage of my phone and social media is over 80% reading. Even listening to audio books is still better than what these kids are getting. Litteraly just settling in to be spoon fed video and images by the algorithms firehose. Little to no reading, or even conscious thought. The concept terrifies me. For them its Tuesday. I even disable autoplay on YouTube because that shit pisses me off. And shorts? Fuck no.

This isn’t a social media or a phone/tablet issue realistically. Its all algorithm all the time. Without effort and intention the brain doesn’t develop. Just random stream of unremarkable content with barely more thought put into it, than those with their brains switched off watching. Worse, if there accidentally was. Well good luck finding it again. Fucking algorithmic feeds.

Ah that’s fair yeah. It’s getting better. But without some sort of system where a flat pack can request the permissions that it needs at install or runtime. It’s far from where it should be. Trivial to do with an app like flat seal. But that’s not typically installed out of the box. It’s all command line by default and very obtuse to the average user.

That would make it worse. Then it would only be usable on systems based off of canonical. Not even debian. Snap does have a few small technical benefits over something like flat pack currently. But if you want to just package it and run it anywhere. Flat pack is the go-to

I know right? This is literally what flat pack was meant to address. Just package has push it and let any system use it. So it is a little more complicated and another step on top of everything.

If you’re not having crashes Etc? Probably not at all. I didn’t even really think of that. Though I don’t actually keep any data on the laptop. It’s an old 2 gigahertz core two Duo . With a spinning rust hard drive. I use it mostly As a home assistant dashboard and interface.

Yes if they had any actionable information on him they would have already been advertising it or putting it out there. The fact that they haven’t speaks volumes. This Administration would even purposefully griefly put out false information as long as it hurts people they don’t like.

The only way to know is to try. The only way to truly lose is never to try. 100% PBS and public media stations should absolutely try to do something like this everywhere. Whether it’s something like Mastodon servers for local users in the state or viewing area. It’s a great way to build modern communities. We have someone that runs a local instance for our city area. I don’t generally post there. But I absolutely log in to check the local feed.

Sadly for much of what I listen to outside of band camp none of those Services have what I want typically. It’s been a few years. Maybe I need to reassess it. But there is a reason I ended up on YouTube music. Just the breadth of the content. And the fact that you get regular YouTube ad free with it also isn’t a bad deal. That’s probably why I watch Mostly YouTube anymore these days.

But I found myself having to skip more and more past AI artist that pop up randomly in the queue. Something I wouldn’t mind not doing. If any of these other services actually catered to the niches that I enjoy. Which is very hit or miss unfortunately. Last time I checked even Pandora and Spotify didn’t have a lot of what I listen to.

That sucks. At least it was useful unlike gemini.
