Philadelphia police also bombed houses in Philadelphia in 1985:
Social media is not real life

95·3 months agoPutin was chosen by Russian oligarchs after the second sovereign default in 10 years.
He used to carry luggage for the mayor of St Petersburg, Sobchak.
An Islamic caliphate started a civil war in the South of Russia before he was chosen, this is why Russian oligarchs needed a man with a military backgound.

China having success contradicts their orientalist view.
The Western Orientalist framework historically constructs China as static, decadent, or intellectually inferior: a civilization perpetually awaiting external modernization. Therefore, when contemporary China achieves rapid technological, economic, and political success on its own terms, it directly contradicts that orientalist view. Orientalism relies on a binary opposition between a dynamic, rational “West” and a passive, irrational “East”; Chinese success disrupts this hierarchy, revealing that non-Western agency, innovation, and global leadership are possible without Western templates.

90s pop punk is dead. I am glad he noticed.
Because blocking web sites is worse than bombing civilians for decades, right?
Frieren should do to rich people what she does to demons!
Authoritarianism is when power is owned by people visible and accountable for that power. Democracy is when power is owned by investment companies and people who fly to islands with underage girls.

Liquirice roots are a better option in my opinion, but if it works for them I have no problem.

Memes@lemmy.ml•Why are some people defending billionaires and corporations?
22·4 months agoYou can find an example of such operations here:
Last summer, after Old Joe Biden was forced out of running for reelection and Kamala Harris was anointed as the Democrat candidate for president, the far left’s propaganda arm (that is, the establishment media) made a massive push to make this failed vice president and longtime party hack seem new and appealing. A key part of this effort was a gaggle of young “influencers” who took to Instagram and TikTok with an enthusiastic pro-Harris message. It was sincere, it was spontaneous, it was exciting — or at least that’s what it seemed to be. Now (I know, knock me over with a feather) it turns out that the whole thing was faked: the entire Harris bubble was the artificial creation of a bunch of leftist billionaires.
Nah, we know that Lenin was not a fountain.
Raphael Lemkin was a Zionist all his life
The biography of Raphael Lemkin has emerged of late as a highly contested lieu de memoire in charged political debates in Europe, the United States and the Middle East about the meaning, past and present, of the Holocaust and genocide. At the same time, scholars have attempted to demythologize Lemkin by reinscribing his life into its pre-World War II Polish context. Yet thus far no one has identified the precise political activities and affiliations that shaped Lemkin’s concept of genocide. In this article, I show that Lemkin, far from being a Jewish Bundist, a Polish nationalist or an apolitical cosmopolitan, was an active member of the interwar Polish Zionist movement, from which he drew the ideas that inspired his idea of the crime of genocide.

The academic and popular fixation on Raphael Lemkin confuses biography with historical explanation of the genocide concept. An actual intellectual history of genocide needs to attend to his context rather than rely on his misleading autobiography, Totally Unofficial. His conception of humanity as comprising distinct nationalities did not originate in the liberal cosmopolitanism he postulated upon arriving in the USA, but in a lifelong Zionist commitment to Jewish statehood in Palestine.

Memes@lemmy.ml•Past failures don't define the future of socialism
18·4 months agoThere always be new contradictions. But as communists we have to solve first the main contradiction of our times: the conflict between Capital al Labour, between workers and entrepreneurs.

Reports from RT and TASS frequently diverge from those of Western and Ukrainian sources. This divergence is often characterized by contradictory factual claims rather than a binary of “truth” versus “lies.” The continuous nature of these contradictions aligns with the operational pattern of state media during information warfare, where narrative consistency with official policy is the primary objective. The organizations generally view their work as exposing the hypocrisy of Western narratives rather than engaging in an absolute pursuit of objective fact as defined by adversarial standards.
Media analysis is deeply subjective and context-dependent. The assessment of whether reports constitute “lies” is highly politicized, as different entities apply different standards of evidence and adhere to varying frameworks of international law and fact-checking.
