Ubuntu is the only distro that tends to work for me long-term

1·8 months agoDefinitely. The game runs okay in single player. I just think it’s too much for my system when there’s a lot going on on-screen

Linux Gaming@lemmy.ml•I could use a little advice on upgrading my machine without spending too much money
10·8 months agoActually this might be a great idea. Before the current PC I used an $80 refurb I got from Microcenter. I slapped a video card in there and that lasted me a few years before I had to upgrade again.
I will take a look at the old office pc market and see what I can find in my budget. Thanks
Edit: old office PC 's don’t seem to be as good of a deal as they used to be

Linux@lemmy.ml•What’s a graphical piece of software you wish existed or was better?
6·9 months agoWinSCP is a Windows tool I use at work to send files between machines and I wish there was linux version. Programs like Dolphin are similar but I always manage to find something I can do in WinSCP that I can’t do in the linux alternatives
Edit: commenters just pointed out a bunch of potential solutions I wasn’t even aware of, so I’m probably just dumb please carry on
It’s entirely possible it’s user error on my part but I have not had the same issue with other distros. Only distros running KDE/Plasma seem to have the issue.
Any KDE super users could probably take one look at my setup and be like “oh, you just need to toggle the dooble-gonger and set flops to 9600” but I am far too dumb
i5 4690k (I think, can verify later)
EVGA GTX 1060 6GB
32GB RAM DDR3
I run most things fine but I always have problems with distros that use the KDE/Plasma desktop enviroment. I believe this is likely an issue with my configuration where it isn’t utilizing my video card or something and a smarter person would probably not have the same problem
I really love Ubuntu Studio but Plasma/KDE doesn’t seem to run well on my machine. Its the result of having old hardware and not having the expertise to figure out why it doesn’t run properly. If it weren’t for that I would use it.
Who likes any of them? Name me a state that isn’t dripping with blood. Name me a national leader who isn’t guilty.
I find KDE looks nicer but it always runs like shit on my machine. Skill issue probably
Yeah, maybe I’m just not smart enough but I always have the best luck with Debian/Ubuntu style distros. I’m glad Arch users are happy with Arch, it just doesn’t work for me
Ubuntu because I’m old, uncool, and tired

I haven’t read Lolita but I just started reading Pale Fire by Nobokov so it’s funny you brought that up. I have heard about Lolita getting adopted by the very creeps it intends to rebuke. I’ll have to check out her podcast on it
