Oh yeah? Well AI systems can be useful for everyday tasks like recommendations or summaries, but their reliability depends on the context and the quality of the data they were trained on. Researchers have developed methods to measure an AI model’s confidence in its answers, which helps users assess trustworthiness in high-stakes decisions such as healthcare or finance.
So, uh, maybe you should be aware of the high quality data used in training and ask those, uh, other people who throw out LLM answers what the confidence value is before you judge. Ha, got em!
I like that one as well. It’s cool to watch Mando do PG John Wick stuff, Rotta the Hutt was a surprisingly chill dude which was neat, and that part in the middle that was all puppets was a lot of fun to watch. Babu Frik was (in my opinion) the only good part of Rise of Skywalker, and the other little dudes in Mandalorian and Grogu were just as fun!

The Mandalorian and Grogu or Rise of Skywalker?

That should definitely be the barest minimum, it’s just insane to me how much one of these data centers demands. Even beyond the privacy/copyright concerns, it doesn’t seem to me like the benefits of training models faster justifies the costs.

I’m gonna throw some numbers around based on a conversation with my friend the other day.
He works at an oil refinery nearby and under heavy load the whole facility can use up to 150MW of electricity. That’s while being rated as one of the least environmentally harmful refineries in the US. They have ~300 acres of solar panels supplying ~35MW over the course of a full day (~50MW during daylight hours). That means 20~25% of their power needs are fully renewable.
He also mentioned that the new Meta datacenter going up nearby is projected to use ~400MW! That’s two and a half oil refineries! That also means that to cover its electricity use they would need to set up ~2800 acres of solar panels. That’s ~11 times the footprint of the datacenter itself and two large farms worth of space on some of the best farmland in the country!
They definitely should be 100% powering the facility with renewables, but even then I don’t think model training justifies the space and resources that need to be invested to accomplish that.
Woah, I had no idea about this. It look like there is a lot to dig into, thanks!
And if you like the idea of watching a classic tv series but know you won’t actually follow through on it, my favorite youtuber made a long but interesting video about it as well! https://youtu.be/s9AJlhE2-qw?is=lDIfgZ2ntNdxxUsv
I hear something I remember was 20 years ago and my first thought is that it’s so cool I got to witness that! Then I think about the people older than me and want to extract their experience of the things they lived through. Then I think about the people younger than me and wonder what they think of the things I remember and they don’t, hope they have some interest in learning of and from those things. Then I realize some day I’ll be older than most people and will have very few people in my life that have shared my experiences and get a little melancholy.
Exactly what I was going to say. The comic is only a couple days old, and I don’t know where the artist lives but here in the Twin Cities there has been smoke from Canadian wildfires around this time for several years straight now. I had to postpone my tennis plans today because of it. My older coworker this morning told me it used to never be like this. The office custodians closed the outside air dampers because the smoke was leaking inside.
You gotta warn someone before sending them down a TV Tropes rabbit hole!
After managing a gas station and car wash, my dad advised me to never use a touch free car wash because the only way to fully clean with that method is to use the acidic cleaning agents.

This is the article that got me into mechanical watches. I can’t afford a super expensive one, but I got my second last fall and it not only has a chronograph function but also has radioactive tritium tubes in the hands and time notches so it glows in the dark under its own power!

I looked into why protein is so popular right now, and the main thing I can see is that protein takes a while to break down, leaving you feeling fuller longer and making it easier to eat less. The problem with that is most people (Americans at least) already eat way more protein than they need. In almost every case people would be better served by eating more fiber or replacing processed grains with whole grains, both of which achieve a similar effect while also actually aiding the digestive system. But the HHS as it is today isn’t interested in that, so they just increased the recommended amount of protein instead.

It’s so nice of her to open her mouth that much so the cat and get to work with the floss he’s been maintaining!

Yes it is. Out of curiosity, how many miles of range do you tend to get charging overnight? I’ve read that it’s about 20 miles per 12 hours, which for me would not be enough to cover my commute.

What do you mean when you use the word “epistemologies” in this context?
I am not serious at all, that first paragraph was copy pasted from an LLM button in DuckDuckGo I had to go out of my way to look for.
A lot of the big models were trained on reddit data with little indication whether there was selection for high quality content, which means to me that the overall training data quality is unreliable. If an LLM can hallucinate an answer, it can hallucinate its confidence value since that is also an answer.
In other words, I agree with your sentiment.
