  • Density comes into it if we are measuring buoyancy. The weight of the displaced water is equal to the weight of the buoyant object, and the ratio of volume submerged vs above water should give a way to determine density, but I don’t have the precise method in my head right now.

    However assuming all you want is the volume, you simply need to fully submerge the object (by applying enough downward force if its density is too low), and the displaced volume is equal to the objects volume. The displaced water will have to flow to the top of the container, so by measuring the rise in water level and multiplying with the base area of your container you can get it easily.

    Just make sure you don’t accidentally also measure your hand if you’re pushing down the sphere.


  • A0 is a square meter. Its sides are self similar, such that the ratio of long to short edge stays the same when you cut one in the middle, and thus create a new long and short edge.

    Each cut produces two sheets of the next Ax number, so A4 is four times halved compared to A0, or a sixteenth of a square meter.

    That property of being able to halve is achieved with a ratio of the square root of 2, so unfortunately the measurements in absolute numbers get pretty odd.

    Same thing. The group of designers who founded the art style in the 80s called themselves Memphis, then the Corporate Art inspired by it in the last ten years or so was called Corporate Memphis. Alegria is the specific name for the art style that Facebook commissioned and used in 2017.

    In short according to his research the people currently making a profit or at least positive margins, are the people who build chips and memory, who build energy infrastructure, and who build servers and data canters.

    I would like to see the distinction between Servers (Super Micro, Dell Technologies, Foxconn) and Datacenters (Equinix, Digital Realty, Amazon/AWS, Microsoft/Azure, Alphabet/Google Cloud, CoreWeave, Nebius) but he seems to have put them together.

    Also I heard from our local news that ABB (which is Swiss, Edit: apparently also Swedish) is profiting too, they belong in the power category.

    And I wonder why Arista goes in the Energy category, I’d see them and Cisco, and Juniper, and Extreme, and Nokia in a separate network category.
