Technology@lemmy.world•AI is often discussed with a simple safeguard in mind: Keep a human in the loop. But what happens when AI is already shaping the information, options and recommendations that inform a decision?English
22·5 days agoI don’t find that at all at my work, I have access to AI but I am in no way forced to use it. I can confidently say that most tasks I undertake cannot be made appreciably more efficient by using an AI. At the end of the day I’m liable for my decisions as an engineer and my decisions have the capability to affect whether a quite large group of people live or die. I need to be sure of the answer. I might use it as a search tool or to draft a template back bone, but I need to verify the information from a reliable source before I use it so I can’t take a summary and assume it’s right. I would need to read all sources and likely rewrite most of it anyway to feed it into a larger more targeted document so I might as well be writing it from scratch by utilising the sources directly. It is not feasible to get an existing AI to make effective drawing markups or modifications, I don’t believe that capability will ever exist.
I would be shocked if the carriers hadnt installed an active DAS just to ensure they meet regulatory coverage compliance, but at the very least the dungeon management would want to be implementing an effective wireless solution to ensure dungeon users are happy and staff can have access to operational information. They could also use it for tracking staff and monitoring dungeon utilisation.
The first season was pretty good, second wasnt great but watchable, the third season really dropped off in quality.
Well it has credit cards so why wouldn’t it?
Just try to buy something on it?
Fanfic is fine provided it’s written well. I’ve never heard of Kirill Yeskov, but I like a good reimagining of a classic text.
Is this to LOTR as Wicked (not the stupid musical) is to Wizard of Oz?
You’d probably also need to make Firefox Elrond and Isildur google, Microsoft can be some random orc or something …
I’m not entirely convinced that Google and Microsoft are Elrond in this particular issue … or that uBlock Origin is the one ring … it feels like this meme is something Sauron would push to make people think the good guys are bad guys …

2·25 days agoThey had a loose alliance from 1936 and signed the tripartite in 1940 but that really amounted to keeping out of each other way and sharing information. They only mutually declared war on the US a week after Japan bombed pearl harbour. The US was still profiting from both sides of the European theatre up until then so whos to say what backroom negotiations were happening between Germany and the US in that week. The Nazis werent really renown for treating people from different ethnic groups as equals so who’s to say what their first preference of allies were. We can only rely on our written history which is conveniently written by the winners …

memes@lemmy.world•POV: When You Are a Fourth Generation North AmericanEnglish
1·25 days agoThe USA was already making money from both sides of the war in Europe. That was mostly the reason they didn’t enter it until Japan bombed them because Japan didn’t like having their fuel supplies cut off by the USA because the USA thought the USA should be the only ones to expand an empire into the Pacific. Following that they wanted support for their retaliation to Japan’s retaliation to their retaliation to Japan’s expansion into the Pacific so they picked a side in Europe (probably the side who owed them the most money) and entered the war against the Nazis.
