Linux@lemmy.ml•Does it ever bother some of you that "I'm switching to Linux!" is just more of a way to appear rebellious than actually committing to the choice?
14·10 months agoMany of us have switched to Linux and haven’t looked back. Just because we’re not posting about it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.
I’m willing to get upset about this if anyone needs the comfort Reddit normal brings. I definitely think this if hilarious but I promise I won’t show it if my service is required. 🤣

Technology@lemmy.world•AI has had zero effect on jobs so far, says Yale studyEnglish
91·11 months agoAi has been trained on current and past writing which could be considered plagiarism depending on if you’re asking an Ai CEO or not. My question is, what happens when most writing is done by Ai? Do they continue to train it but now on itself? Will the language models experience deterioration at that point?

331·1 year agoPeople are easily convinced to choose a view based on what everyone else around them is doing. This is why Ai is such a threat right now because a single actor can flood social media, comment boards and other online groups with comments arguing a point to convince everyone theyre the ones with the alternative view. It’s programmed social manipulation.

This is the same reason the elite went so hard on the communist scare late last century. Back then certain political views were almost a criminal offense. Hopefully history doesn’t repeat itself here.

I saw an earlier post that showed Lemmy’s recent rapid growth followed by a plateau and then slight decline. My feeling is that there is a very LOUD minority of Lemmy users that are trying to act as self-anointed gatekeepers and they’re bringing the platform down as a direct consequence. It makes the platform look petty and small to new and existing users alike. If the top posts are continually about shaming other users then this platform isn’t going to last. Let’s focus on building communities and having interesting conversations rather than one upping each other.

This is the correct take. Buying from one store creates a monopoly and that benefits no-one except that monopolists.
