Has this guy ever even written any code? Can anyone name a piece of software he’s worked on? Isn’t he like a self-help author for programmers?

Well, I believe in sickness too. And, yes, I also feel pity for Epstein and company, look at them, do you think those are happy people?
Don’t get me wrong, I ain’t no saint and this isn’t any of that ‘other cheek’ crap. I do hate to live in a world full of sick, dumb, fool, shortsighted people, but in a more ‘hate the game and not the player’ way, specially since playing it is not really a choice.
To solve this issues, or any problem really, it’s needed some understanding. I’m not very good with people or with social matters, nor do I like them much, but I think the attitude on your comment of ‘I’m glad this bad thing is happening because it’s hurting the other people more’ isn’t helping.

Do you deprive these people of your compassion because you think they are evil? Because I sincerely don’t believe in evil. I believe in stupidity, folly, shortsightedness… and the people affected by them do have my compassion and my empathy.
Also, given what you said I’d bet you voted for a billionaire-friendly, genocide supporter, fucking cop. So you, in that case, too have my compassion and empathy.

Ja! Tócate los cojones, Mariloli!
Free press: when you can’t even record the police, it’s illegal (kind of, in theory. Absolutely forbidden in practice). Freedom of speech: unless it’s against the Crown, or the Church, or national unity, or… Independent courts: independent from fairness, and the truth? Sure. Independent from the establishment’s power? Not at all. So, yes, you’re too privileged to care for any of this, but worry not, amigo, those privileges are being transferred upwards so (unless you’re part of the top elite) you’ll care soon enough. We don’t have anything to envy the USA or China (on these matters). I’ve been there, not as a tourist, so it’s not hearsay.

. I live in country with independent courts, free press and freedom of speech
Which magical country is that? Like, I get some eurohaugtiness vibes from your comment, so as a fellow eurofucker I can tell you, with quite some confidence, that you’re wrong. You’re probably just too privileged for this to matter to you, personally.

The petaflops sometimes… flop. The only use case I personally have for llms, and they are brilliant at that, is when a word just won’t come to mind—I can give it a precise description of it but my brain refuses to produce the word, in English nor Spanish.

It probably has more to do with the people that buy BMWs, Rams, and Teslas driving like fucking idiots than with the cars themselves.

There’s an argument to be made that it is, in fact, not ‘reading’. The training of the model could be considered a lossy compression of the data. And streaming movies in a lossy compression format is not fair use, is it?

We’ve had them for quite some time. They don’t change price for individual customers, I don’t think they change the price in the middle of the day either. But, I guess, they can change the prices just before opening, like if the wether service forecasts a rainy day they could rise the price of umbrellas and raincoats. Cold? Hot chocolate and soups. Hot? Ice cream and cold drinks. Certain asshole died overnight? Champaign and confetti cannons through the roof. And so on…

In Spain we’ve had those for years now, and prices are as stupidly high in the stores with paper ones…
If you have some fos licensed software it will be foss forever, that licence is a contract and doesn’t go away. Now the author(s) of that code can license it to other people or release the newer versions with a different non-foss licence.

It’s not the ai companies the ones falling, it’s the other software developing companies. It seems that investors, in their infinite wisdom, are thinking developing software is not gonna be necessary in the future, like, you just ask gpt for the program you need and it’ll build it on the fly or something…
You could’ve made this ‘meme’ with, literally, any service or product, couldn’t you?

Wasn’t the python convention to use spaces (4 iirc)? Which is just plain wrong imho.

So if someone tells grok it’s April 30th 1945… would it self destruct?

I recognise their username. It’s half sane takes, half absolute wankery with them.

It does. I’m posting this comment on the Mbin pwa on my iPhone, works pretty well.
Newlines mean nothing in c. You can literally write any program in three lines of c, if you don’t give a crap about readability.

Small correction, the article doesn’t say he was going to therapy. It says that his mother was a therapist, I had to reread that sentence twice:
Neither his mother, a social worker and therapist, nor his friends
The mother, social worker, and therapist aren’t three different persons.
Back in my day we called ‘software that silently downloads and installs on your computer without your intervention or consent’ a computer virus. We would have said ‘LG monitors install viruses on your pc’ and it would’ve been kind of a big deal. Fuck, now I feel old.
