It was needed to shunt the universe back to the way it was!

The last job I applied for appeared very suddenly on LinkedIn on a Saturday. it was for a company I had no idea even hired software developers. I threw my CV at it, ranted in one of the question boxes about how using MVC as an example of a design pattern is a bit odd because it’s more of an architectural pattern, and that CQRS sounds good on paper but everyone in the team has to know it or it falls apart. By the end of the week, the ad was down, I had an interview scheduled and after a technical interview I had a job offer. This was… About 2 years ago.

I hate cookie banners because UX keep going “We keep getting holes in our analytics!” and blaming me for it. I understand the whole “We want to see at what point people are dropping out of the login process so we can make it easier for them to complete the journey” but it’s still fucking annoying when they complain about analytics drops when our users are naturally very privacy focused and I can’t control whether they deny cookies or not!

There might be ways of tracking without using cookies, but I’m apparently not allowed to use those because the GA is controlled by someone other than me.

The internet DOES give you unlimited access to knowledge. The problem is:

1. Not all of that knowledge is useful

2. Learning is pretty boring when compared to arguing with someone about a book neither of you have read but are too proud to admit it.

Lenin was much the same. He knew a revolution wouldn’t happen if things got better, so he did everything he could to make things as bad as humanly possible. When the provisional government came along, granted free speech rights and universal suffrage, Lenin was vehemently opposed to it, because you can’t have a communist revolution when stuff is going well. Just once I want to see a subversion of the trope where someone goes to another country/planet, and instead of the noble savage trope, they go home going “Oh yeah I’m never going back there, it sucks. I caught a rash where my entire arm turned a pinkish brown. Absolutely terrifying place”.

That, or they go to the other country, and are like “These savages are primitive, but they have PRIDE! They are a noble people!” and the natives aren’t even that different, they just have cassette tapes or use Betamax or HD-DVD. They’re sitting there watching Terminator or something and this guy is just freaking out. Oh! Oh the poor souls! Don’t they know that Blu Ray is the superior format?!

Apparently Playnite has a ITAD plugin you can use, but it’s limited to your wishlist, and doesn’t have an all-in-one browser, and it doesn’t look like it’s very well maintained.

Monopolies tend to be bad. The more my game library is on steam, the more fucked I am if my country decides to ban Steam for some reason or another, or the US decides to fuck everyone else over.

I wish GOG Galaxy and Playnite were good launchers. I don’t like Epic and I don’t like the stranglehold Steam has on the market. Basically I want a launcher where I can see all of my games, but I also want to be able to open as many stores as I want, and then be able to compare prices and then buy from each of those stores within the same launcher.
