It’s one-time in the sense that it’s this movie. Next one-time will be for the next movie

This is what I feel is the biggest issue, the deception.
The fact that there’s a blacklist is almost inconsequential to the fact that it’s not explicitly stated, that it’s default applied AND the error message when you run into it implies it’s not from a blacklist.
Lies by omission are still lies no matter how much Patrick is crying about it always being there. If you’re not upfront about it, for something as incendiary as a shadowban list, especially for a community like lemmy, you’re a piece of shit and deserve to be ostracized.
If he had made it all transparent, we’d still make fun of him but at least he would be honest about it and give people the choice to decide for themselves.

Honestly I’m not considering leaving at all while this administration is in power. We’ve already heard too many stories of arbitrary detentions even for lawful citizens or visitors that I simply don’t want to roll the dice on whether my vacation ends with a nightmare or just another flight in as normal

Really interesting read
The discovery of another merger between two organisms is a pretty big deal

May I let you all know about windows update blocker?
It buys you time til you get your machine switched over to Linux without being at the mercy of a forced update potentially bricking it first

DRM ebooks are less of an issue unlike other forms of media because it’s extremely easy to convert to an open format, as long as you have access to the ebook file.
You only need to install Calibre and an add-on for it to remove DRM, which you will need to search for on the web as it’s not baked into calibre for what I hope are obvious reasons

That’s troubling, I don’t like what this portends.
The new CEOs background especially suggests they’re spiffing up the company for a later sellout, why else would they pick a merger specialist for the role?

If it was the state, it would only be a matter of time before someone blew it up with dynamite. People ‘round there don’t like different ideas
Cool that it’s in the other Georgia, it has a chance of surviving to be studied

I’ve seen one of those glowing petunias in real life, it’s laughable that glowing plants could illuminate anything like a park or a street.
Don’t get me wrong, it was cool af, but it’s not the future of lighting

by default, text ads will remain visible on our default search partner’s page - currently Startpage
Users who want to disable that entirely can do so with a single toggle in settings
it has nothing to do with any of Brave’s crypto or rewards ecosystem - we’re just using the adblocking library.
These were the relevant bits to me.
In practice not really any different than needing to configure a fresh copy of Firefox or whatever.

Don’t threaten me with a good time

Oh yeah super interested in this
I briefly entertained doing a self hosted instance but that turned out to be a tall order for a newbie
Ah you’re right, I meant NFT. The monkey avatars somebody paid thousands for
I think you should integrate NFTs in there for more profit potential
If only you could profit from it

Send billionaires down in carbon fiber subs to sightsee

It’s Benn Jordan
Also, the way they catalogue info is not just license numbers, but any unique combinations of bike racks, bumper stickers or the like. So your bike rack would make you very trackable in a way, but at least your identity would be harder to pinpoint
And about the intentional obfuscation, all kinds of princess pavement trucks and entitled BMWs deliberately use smoked license plate covers, and nobody bats an eye. So if there’s a law against that, it either has no teeth or is not enforced

Just like me the OP wants to move off of windows but there’s a game that just doesn’t work right on Linux, so keeping the ringwindows is what ends up happening

Going to a protest? Don’t bring your phone without doing this first
I’m skeptical of bringing your phone at all, either in airplane mode or off, because modern phones still broadcast location when it’s ‘dead’ in order for you to find it. But I don’t know enough about that to say for sure
It’s pointless to bother with these settings if you’re using chrome as Google changed the terms of service a while back to explicitly track your browsing data. Even if this bug was fixed, it’s just to make the user feel better, doesn’t change the reality of things.
