Cute meme but a friend of mine got fired yesterday. Having a job definitely doesn’t suck as much as not having one.
“Noble” probably isn’t the word I’d choose, but “awesome” certainly fits.
People who do their own research but don’t cite professional research are idiots.

11·5 months agoThis is what happens when you elect a leader who gives the Religious Right what they want. When you’ve got a large segment of your population who is culturally delusional and can’t deal with reality, and you give them political power, they destroy your civilization in order to preserve their backwards, primitive way of life. These people are the bane of every society. They prey upon people’s distress and fears, and sell them snake oil and prayers in exchange for tearing down the only real hope you had.

science@lemmy.world•Does medicinal cannabis work for depression, anxiety or PTSD? Our study says there’s no evidenceEnglish
21·6 months agoNo, what this boils down to is that pot gets you high and a lot of people abuse it to avoid dealing with their feelings and problems. That is a totally reasonable concern for any healthcare provider to have and for there to be a general preference for prescribing other medications that don’t have those drawbacks.
People ITT are just butthurt about their pro-marijuana politics. And this isn’t the first post in this community I’ve seen featuring politics-laden comments that question real science because it’s inconvenient. My opinion of this community is dropping fast.

2·6 months agoNo, I wouldn’t recommend using THC to manage any emotion because there are more effective drugs with fewer side effects, typically.

46·6 months agoWow, what a strong and well-articulated argument. Reminds me of people who argue that alcohol is an effective treatment for all those ailments.
Theres a difference between using a drug to keep emotional problems within manageable limits while engaging in therapy to arrive at more permanent solutions and abusing it to mask negative emotions as a way to avoid dealing with them. You don’t sound like you appreciate that difference, meaning you’re probably just defending substance abuse and addiction, perhaps as problems in your own life. If so, please seek help. Regardless, you don’t seem to understand the problem.

science@lemmy.world•Yale Study Reveals How Children with Disruptive Behavior Get “Stuck” in Specific Brain StatesEnglish
3·6 months agoIt may, it may not. The note that it affects people with ADHD is a good indicator, but it’s not conclusive. People with autism do not always display disruptive behavior in the way the article is citing. We need to be careful about identifying “disruptive behavior” in ways that are more consistent with antisocial personality disorder vs. autism. The distinction between the two is critical.

21·8 months agoIsn’t there a fairly robust body of research demonstrating a causal link between excessive social media use and increased anxiety at this point? Increased anxiety over a prolonged period of time can certainly cause depression, so I see it as a secondary effect.
