I do wonder if this is the new standard when moving everything from AWS to Azure.

Which championship? Which sport? Which country in the UK?
I had switched to some cheap SoundCore earbuds, still having issues with the pixel, switched to an iphone - no issues. Wanted nice ear buds again, so went with airpods. My original pixel buds were still sometimes not charging, or more importantly 1 would discharge in the case.
This is actually the primary reason I switched from Pixel to iPhone. I was sick and fed up of leaving the house, opening up the pixel buds case and 1 bud not connecting, or having minimal charge, or it just cuts out after a minute of listening to something. Standing in the middle of the street troubleshooting earbuds whilst I just want to listen to something whilst going somewhere was so frustrating. Moved to iphone and airpods - not had an issues since (about 2 years now). Yes I tried different earbuds with my pixel. No, they weren’t any better. In-fact I still have some and they work better with my iphone.
I don’t go in for fanboism when it comes to tech companies, but the build quality of Samsung and Google is atrocious.
Who is Sadya? Do you mean Satya Nadella? He’s Microsoft CEO. Google CEO is Sundar Pichai.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Interview via MS Teams? How about NO.
4·3 months agoThis is it. I used to work for a consultancy that specialised in Oracle products. Turns out if you want an ERP or HCM, running Oracle EBS with a DB backend on Oracle…running on Oracle Linux…on Oracle Linux KVM hypervisors (where CPU pinning is a recognised and allowed tactic - unlike Oracle on other hypervisors)…it turns out, might be competitively priced.
It’s a total lock in. Also, I get the impression that it’s almost always up to what the Finance team is used to/familiar with. They decide the finance app - then everything else follows as above due to the financials…which they are in charge of.
I know a guy who migrated workloads off PostgreSQL Enterprise back to Oracle as the performance and availability just wasn’t good enough. I don’t know enough about DBs to query that much, but he did it.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft admits Windows 11 has a GDID tracker with no off switch, first documented publicly in an FBI hacker complaintEnglish
1·3 months agoIt mentions this GDID is sent in telemetry. So this guy kept using a hosted proxy, meaning his egress IP was always changing accessing different services, but everytime his Windows 11 machine was sending back telemetry (which included his GDID) they were logging the IP address he was appearing from (the proxy) - so they were able to track and identify him.

If you host your own DB of users and passwords you are a target. Offloading it to as many wide-spread oauth providers as possible is a smart move.
Thought I was having a moment.

Technology@lemmy.world•Thousands lose their jobs in deep cuts at tech giant OracleEnglish
11·6 months agoWhen they renamed 23c to 23ai I cringed so hard. You don’t install the DB and get an AI, you get an empty DB that has vectors.

Technology@lemmy.world•Finally an honest headline: Oracle is cutting up to 30,000 employees to pay for AI data centresEnglish
7·6 months agoAnd enabling employees to use AI more than the free tier is really expensive too.
The cost is upfront for training the LLM, then they have to sell the end product to us (to recuperate costs, start training the next 500B model, etc.), so giving their employees access to a higher tier of LLM is relatively minimal cost, inference isn’t exactly cheap, but I think they could afford to give their employees access to higher models.
But, this is Oracle I guess.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft wants devs to build Electron AI apps on Windows 11, says no need of native code, despite RAM concernsEnglish
14·7 months agoThis sentence reads like Microsoft is the inventor of Javascript:
Electron apps are ruining the Windows 11 experience, and even the JavaScript creator has warned against ‘rushed web UX over native,’
So there’s 3 things, either they meant Typescript, they are very wrong or they’re quoting Brendan Eich and not attributing it to him.

Linux@lemmy.ml•How could you manage a large number of servers, clients and users the way AD does, in an all-Linux environment?
13·7 months agoFreeIPA (IdM on RHEL clones) is similar in some functionality (you join the domain, you allow certain users/groups can run certain commands [like controlling sudo’ers], etc.) and it’s also a CA).
For configuration management I lean towards Ansible (Puppet, Salt, Chef I think all use a Ruby syntax, Ansible is YAML), and for deployment well Terraform, Kickstart and cloud-init - without knowing your environment it’s difficult to be more precise. There’s also Pyinfra which I’ve been meaning to give a whirl but not had a chance.
You’ve also got Keycloak if you need OIDC or SAML functionality (for SSO).
Not sure I follow. Which app?

I’m a bit annoyed it’s not Mario Odyssey 2 (I was annoyed when DK Bonanza wasn’t either), but I’ll probably get it. It was a pretty good trailer.
