Technology@lemmy.world•The new Microsoft copilot key is impossible to properly remap.English
111·8 months agothis isn’t properly remapped and depending on implementation of the key-up events by the keyboard vendor, requires an ugly time delay hack.

164·8 months agoYou can get a 2020 M1 / 2022 M2 Macbook air for ~400€, that will mop the floor with all new hardware in that price range released even today (completely fanless/noiseless btw.). It also has decent linux support via asahi and Apple will still probably provide 5+ years of macOS updates anyway.

The simple trick to owning nice hardware is to never give vendors your money directly, let others burden the depreciation.

23·8 months agoIt’s arguably worse, because Samsung has full control over software, hardware, and firmware of their devices.
Even if MS would like to fix this mess, they can’t.

11·8 months agoI’ve made an update edit: Some hardware vendors fucked up when to send the key-up-sequence apparently so now every keyboard can behave differently. I don’t know if this makes the situation better or worse.

41·8 months agonope, the hardware / keyboard controller sends a complete key sequence instead of a distinguishable key-up and key-down event. The OS can interpret that sequence as it sees fit, but you loose the physical key-up signal when you release the key with your finger.

It is/was required for vendors to use the AI PC / Copilot+ label and Microsoft “invented” the key-sequence.

Technology@lemmy.world•Google says adblockers caused YouTube views count to drop - this is what adblockers told us really happenedEnglish
8·1 year agoThis mostly happens when you use youtube while being logged into a google account.
I fixed this by using firefox containers + https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/switch-container/- logout from google / clear cookies.
- switch to a new “google” container and login to see your subscrpitions
- if a video doesn’t load switch to decontained
also has the nice benefit of not messing up your reccomendations when clicking on random yt-links from other sites

In order to load a custom OS you first must be able to unlock the bootloader ofthe device. The list of OEMs allowing that is sadly getting smaller and smaller and vendors are becoming actively hostile towards custom firmware development.
