Most desktops are windows but most of the work is done in gitlab/vscode or Linux bastions and then run on kubernetes. Another team is working on a corporate Ubuntu image and some are testing it so I’m hopeful for others to move off of windows.

That was my thought process for a bit with having a raid not get mounted intermittently. Now it’s finally stable.

I mean paying for your place and food till you get a different job seems like a reason.

Yeah, like I use AI for debugging but my coworker that left for an AI company was fully doing that and we ended up archiving his MR after he left because it was full of issues down to simple hard coded site values.

I had no formal training in hosting when I started. What got me started was, dating myself, blockbuster going out of business and getting over 1000 dvds over the course of their downfall and wanting a better way to watch a movie than going thru a big binder. Found Plex eventually, then built a server from an old workstation and a couple hdds. Then docker and automation, that did get me in the door for my current kubernetes job, now I’m starting to get kubernetes setup at home with 3 mini PCs.

You will just have to stay on the lts/stable release

I use it everyday in the summer and winter months. Cools/heats the car for 10min before turning off again. Also can be used to keep my dog cool if I have to pop into a place real quick.

Yeah, while I deal with windows at work I was glad they got me a non corporate laptop so I stopped it down to just bare essentials. I do want to try Linux at work but with smart cards and private CAs I’ll deal with windows for now.

Depends https://www.forbes.com/advisor/life-insurance/coverage-for-suicide/
Suicide is not generally covered in the first two years of a life insurance policy but it is covered after that. This two-year period is known as a suicide clause. If a suicide happens more than two years after getting a life insurance policy, the life insurance policy will pay out death benefit to the policy beneficiaries.
I have been loving it so far and got immich and going to add others and under it soon.

No, just chasing the money before it pops.

I believe from what I read it windows auto downloads it as part of the driver.
Yeah, I gave my dad my old pixel and put a launcher on it, locked down the settings so it wouldn’t get accidentally changed to small fonts and just had a few apps, phone, text, email, door dash. That worked except the time he forgot to charge it but I think he knew I would come over more when I couldn’t call him.
If it’s just to make calls I would go used android, big screen and a special launcher that simplifies it and makes text big for typing in numbers. I see the Bluetooth landline phone things have bad reviews but most are from 4 years ago and say to go SIP if you want an actual handset.

Backup as a zip? Small files warped up in one big file. Only backup what you can’t restore from somewhere else. I think B2 can ship you a HDD to restore from if I remember correctly.

Glad to hear, the ones doing the work now will get more recognition and the one leaving can do more of what they want. Hopefully they had a good handoff.

Hosting costs money, maybe if you disable voice, video, uploads, and only allowed text it would be manageable but discord is free. I run my own chat server but it’s only for like 10 people.

Yeah, they are still using other companies models but it’s self hosted on our own hardware. I treat it as a Google search most of the time better but sometimes it gives me a GitHub link that never existed or a command option that exists for a different cli tool but not the one I’m using.
I use duplicity daily to B2 and that’s the only backup I have. https://duplicacy.com/ For heat I have it in the open basement but I also have 10 14tb HDDs so that’s where it comes from.
