I get that gnome is quite inflexible in multi monitor mode but doesn’t bother me since second my screen is usually static and I just swap around the main workspace. Tiling extension just helps me organize them. The point was the market on tiling wm seems pretty saturated why even deal with a problematic one.

You can just get a tiling extension for GNOME and it just works, or use sway or i3 there’s no reason for hyprland to exist.

I got a little fanless atom PC from work that was being tossed because it “didn’t work.” It did work you would just have to apply pressure to it before boot because the CPU must have been coming unsoldered. I just stuck it on the bottom of like 30 pounds of gear and never had a problem.

I’ve got 100tb getting filled. I’m ready. Ok in reality its closer to 60 tb after raid and I’m duplicating the important stuff across 2 devices. But that’s only about 5 tb. But I’m including lots of PDFs epubs and zims as important stuff. The rest is just media.

I’ve dabbled with the ai I get from a kagi subscription its genuinely helpful with some stuff. If I put in a very fuzzy description of something I can write a paragraph about it and it will find it when no amount of searching has been able to turn it up. Its sometimes helpful with troubleshooting, sometimes not. I wouldn’t trust it for any subject I didn’t have some familiarity with and I do go double check some shit it tells me. Over all its fine but I wouldnt pay extra for it outside of my search subscription. I am still opposed to data center rollouts and power use that comes along with it and the lack of data sovereignty but a little box like a strix halo I could see being pretty useful.

I like the chatbot kagi has in their pay tier but not enough to pay for the biggest tier. Its been useful for searches like “I want the best GPU that will fit in 220mm” but aside from that I’m happy enough with their search to not bother.

Yeah they’ve been pushing Claude code at work for us non coders jobs to come up with stuff that would help us. We’ve gotten a few surprisingly useful programs out of it, but our assumption is perfect them now before pricing goes through the roof. We are also only creating programs that do not require ongoing AI use. Just a bunch of relatively simple things that make our jobs easier.

I am still pushing my boss for some local hw as I think as a group we’ve spent a couple grand in the last month and that is the least of my reasons for wanting a local llm vs subscription.

IDK if I’d say crazy stable, but it is more stable than its reputation. I rolled with it for years and the worst that would happen is an update would uninstall gdm or gnome. A few months ago Wayland just got rocked on my system and I could only get into x11 desktops. Tried to get it to work again and waited for updates but never worked. Gave up and switched to Trixie and have a much smoother experience now.
