Now I get it, a drive off is a drive off, and the cashier ain’t gonna lose his job. But it was like $10, in a small town (two stoplights), he knew these guys, they knew him. Float my bro $10 and figure it out later.

But no, they called the cops, sent officers to my grandma’s house trying to find him, almost gave her a heart attack.

He never went back after that. Which was a maybe a little extreme.

But listen, this is the type of town, and my family was the friendly trustworthy type, such that I’ve overdrafted at the bank by a few bucks, and had the cashier catch it and put her own money to cover me. They knew my mom better than me, but still.

I was a heavy coffee drinker until they found my heart defect.

Now I have no caffeine, doctor’s orders, for 22 ish years now.

Sometimes I’ll sneak a sip of coffee if I have a migraine, it helps. But God help me I won’t sleep that night.

You don’t realize how much of a tolerance to and a dependence on caffeine that you build up, until you’re off of it for awhile, and try some again.

It really has a powerful effect on you, even if you don’t realize it right now.

If I drank an energy drink right now, after being dry for so long, my heart would definitely race and I doubt I’d sleep for two days.

I don’t miss caffeine though, honestly. I don’t wake up tired anymore, I just, wake up. And drink some water 🤷‍♂️ then go to work, feeling fine. Not amazingly energized, but not dragging either… Just… Normal 🤷‍♂️

Caffeine is a drug like anything else. If you can get off the stuff for awhile, say 6 months? I bet you’ll be amazed at how you feel, and you won’t go back.

Exactly. I use nano because it’s always there, and if it’s not somehow? It’s in a preloaded repo. It’s just so simple and easy.

And I’ve used it to write code before, only several dozen lines at a time. And that’s BEFORE I knew about the option to use modern key commands. (Learned that today).

Now nano is unstoppable in my mind.

If I learned vim or whatever, then on top of learning it, I’d have to stop and install it every single time. Bleh. No thanks.

That’s fair. I had 24.04 installed because I needed a Linux de for something, and it eventually became the base of my Plex install for awhile.

I purposely did very little to it, besides periodically update it.

Almost immediately I had display issues where the monitor would shimmy back and forth about 10 pixels, rapidly. No rhyme or reason. I figured it was a Wayland thing.

Then the updater started hanging. That’s when I started learning proxmox to properly replace the whole setup.

By the time I got it moved over, you couldn’t restart the machine unattended, because it would kernel panic unless you used grub to revert to an older kernel.

I swear I didn’t tinker with this thing, it just… Died.

Of course that’s just my experience 🤷‍♂️ Glad things have been solid for you. I still recommend poking at atomic distros, I think they’re the future for a lot of less experienced users. It’ll be good to have knowledge of how they work.

I’ve got my very non-techy buddy running it right now. There are a couple of issues with flatpaks not having extended permissions, but otherwise, smooth sailing.

I went with fedora bluefin.

It’s an atomic/immutable type OS, based on silverblue, but with a bunch of drivers and software bundled in.

Atomic is not for everyone, but I love it. I tried it on a whim when I got my framework 13 over a year ago, and it’s been on there ever since.

I’ve been using Linux on and off for a couple of decades now, mostly Ubuntu, but some others (OG DSL anyone?).

Really though I’ve never been able to ditch windows until bluefin. My problem has always been that after a year or two, my system starts to get unstable. And you can forget about complete version upgrades. Out of the question. They never fail to always fail. I just can’t stop tinkering with things.

But bluefin? It has everything I want and need in a daily driver. And it’s very nature FORCES me to not tinker with the inner gubbins. Thusly, it just works. Every day. Every update. Solid.

I use distrobox for tinkering. Or I spin up a Windows VM in proxmox if I need to get crazy. And I’ve still got a Windows computer gathering dust in the corner for when Windows on metal is required, but that’s only happened once since I started this party.

So yeah, if you haven’t given it a try, I highly recommend it.

I have my fw13 plugged in almost all the time. So I set the battery max charge to 60%.

If I really need more juice, I can set it back to 100, but I basically never need that.

That’s probably true. It’s one of the things we haven’t tried yet, and I figured most people would be scared off by the idea and call it too complex, even if I said use Bisquick.

A friend of ours has a portable/luggable pizza oven, and they make their own dough, and those pizzas are amazing. Just a lot of work to get everything rolling, so better done as a group while camping or something.

Yeah pizza was never cheap, but these days it’s very expensive.

Sometimes we make it at home, it’s not that hard if you get the bag of premade dough powder, just add water, costs a dollar or two.

But honestly? My cheat code is using tortillas. It’s like 80% close enough to real thin crust, works well.

Slap some spaghetti sauce on there (cheaper than pizza sauce per ounce, and similar enough), and some dry mozzarella. Maybe some pepperoni. A little garlic salt and some dried basil or whatever. Toss it in the toaster oven. Bob’s your mother’s brother.

Personal pizza for less than a buck a piece. Or maybe A buck a piece? I haven’t priced things in a minute.

Honestly the most expensive part is the pepperoni. (Hint, buy it once, and freeze it, you don’t need that many at once and it won’t go bad).

All jokes aside, movement is healthy, even if just walking around the block, down the sidewalk, or down the street (I don’t know where you live).

Our bodies are made to move. And while I enjoy vegging out as much as the next person, and I definitely don’t go to the gym, I try to go for a short walk at least once a week, sometimes more, sometimes less.

Also not getting any sunshine at all can give you SAD.

I highly recommend getting out of the house occasionally, for your long term health. You’ll feel better too.

So basically if I slap emby on an open port, and point my domain to my IP, it’ll work just the same. Connect is just for people without static IP addresses?

Doesn’t emby have some kind of “connect” feature? I wish jf would do something like that
