Technology@lemmy.world•‘A’ Grades Are Suddenly Everywhere Since the Arrival of ChatGPTEnglish
0·6 months agoYeah this is having a huge negative impact on industry. New grads expect step by step process for every task. Every year there is less ability to solve problems. I don’t know what the solution is but even if we remove llms from the conversation we have an issue with graduates not being able to problem solve. Add on top of that the influence of social media and the constant fear of being wrong and you end up with paralysis once these individuals enter the workforce and are required to solve bespoke problems.
No you can totally still do these kinds of things in cities in the US. You just have to sacrifice other things like space, car, etc and a lot of people that grew up in suburbs aren’t willing to do that.
Sounds like a very car centric lifestyle. I moved to a bike friendly city and my outings cost much less. A six pack of beer from the store will last me two nights out. A night out might be biking to a friend’s place for board game night or doing a group bike ride with stops on the way. Night out costs like 5usd. Granted, that’s not the only socializing I do, but in the summer especially I bike or walk 99% of the time.

31·9 months agoNeurons are much more sophisticated than transistors. A neuron can have multiple connections and can provide a range of values. Digital logic is all yes/no. I’m not sure we even can build something that mimics a brain with current technology.

11·10 months agoYou’re on the internet right now. Electricity is super dangerous and we already had a safe and well regulated postal system to communicate before that. If you’re arguing that we should never innovate I think we just disagree there . The same argument could be used against a lot of things. Do I like self driving cars? Idk not particularly, I like trains and bikes. But the idea of freeing up people’s time so they can focus on worthwhile endeavors appeals to me, and it bothers me that in our society the goal isn’t to work less, but rather to work more for less. That’s the point I was trying to make, that whenever we complain about ‘lost jobs’ we should take a moment to consider how absurd it is that that’s a problem

1·11 months agoI agree with those things, but I believe the person I was responding to was complaining about putting cab drivers out of work. I just think it’s unfortunate that we can’t simply take care of each other, that people are only valued based on what they produce, and therefore any threat to that production is viewed as negative. We’re more productive than ever and we work more than ever. Our ancestors would be baffled if they could see us

Mate symbols do exist. If I wear Nazi garb I can’t complain when minorities treat me suspiciously. That’s not an assumption, that’s me directly communicating my thoughts and feelings with them through my attire. Wearing message based clothing IS action. It’s telling people that you endorse the message, that you endorse the hate.
By your own definition you are maga. You show support for the message. You normalize that message. You take actions to show your support and intimidate others. That’s all action my friend.

10·1 year agoThese assholes are bringing this mentality to the infrastructure industry now. As little as it worked in software development I promise you it works even less in large scale construction. That’s why infrastructure engineers are required to be licensed, we tried this bs 200 years ago and shit literally went off the rails

Not skate parks, solar/BESS facilities. They have all the electrical infrastructure already built, the transformers don’t care which way the electron moves through them. Fill the buildings with sodium batteries (to avoid fire suppression requirements) pile solar panels on the rooftops and surrounding areas. Anyone that has money should be buying these up on the cheap during the crash, skip the entire interconnection queue
