I’m just glad Mapy.com (local service to where I’m from) also shows proper names of Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario. It’s not Foss but you’re at least supporting neither google nor apple. And their map backgrounds are IMO the best out there, closest to “real paper map”.

Hey, I’ve tried Tempus and Chora and both seems quite good. Also found out Wavio https://github.com/Joel-Mercier/wavio recently which I found to suit me the best I think. It’s pretty customisable and I like the UI.

Not sure how it’s with CachyOS, but I update once I feel like it on openSUSE Tumbleweed. Sometimes twice a week sometimes once in months. It works flawless most of the time, but couple times it pooped me out I rolled back, waited another week and updated again without problems. It just works (for me at least).

The cool thing about default CachyOS is it has preconfigured snapper built-in. So in case something breaks during update, it’s couple minutes to restore to previously working state. I use openSUSE and this is a godsend for rolling distros IMO. And having it working out of the box is a win for newbies.

And there are also people that prefer Epic game store for some reason. All five of them.

But looking at it from Steam’s side: why should they list a game, promote it through their recommendation algorithms, forums, friend lists, reviews, workshop, etc. when the developers can use it just as free advertisement and sell it in their store for half the price? What is in it for me? Servers and traffic are not free after all, quite the opposite thanks to today’s AI craziness.

But is there an alternative where I can take my games where I want? Sure, there is GOG, but if they decided to shut down their servers right now I’d be screwed the same. I don’t have storage space to regularly back up installers just for sure… So technically it’s possible but in reality it mostly isn’t.

We have all the servers at work using Debian. It’s rock solid. I use Tumbleweed on home PC and CachyOS on laptop as I do some gaming and having fresh packages might help this. Both works for me.
