This took me way too long to get. 😬

Technology@lemmy.world•Digg launches its new Reddit rival to the publicEnglish
512·10 months agoI really wanted to like it, but it’s already a right-wing cesspit. 🤷♂️ Maaaaaybe it’ll improve, now that it’s public, but I don’t have high hopes.
I know this place is just the opposite kind of echo chamber, but when the other option is being beaten over the head with transphobia and Maga shit, ehh, I’ll take it.

The first time I clicked it with the power off I panicked and assumed I’d somehow jammed it or something. 😄

Technology@lemmy.world•Firefox Will Ship with an "AI Kill Switch" to Completely Disable all AI Features - 9to5LinuxEnglish
3·11 months agoThere’s the slow-and-not-very-capable link preview thing… and I could’ve sworn the “what’s new” page the other day said they were adding an on-device model to improve search results or something, but I can’t find the reference to it now.
Maybe they removed it after all the AI backlash. 😬

Technology@lemmy.world•It just keeps getting worse - Firefox to "evolve into a modern AI browser"English
20846·11 months agoEvery product we build must give people agency in how it works. Privacy, data use, and AI must be clear and understandable. Controls must be simple. AI should always be a choice — something people can easily turn off. People should know why a feature works the way it does and what value they get from it.
Come on, this isn’t Reddit, at least skim the article before you start with the performative outrage.
This always gets posted (without the X part) and I refuse to believe they put the Windows logo in the bin. Too lazy to actually check though. 🚮

2·1 year agoIt irks me that all you ever hear about is “Ugh, Microsoft trying to force people to use Edge again”
And yet, when I did use Edge, I had to install an extension to remove the huge “We recommend using Chrome” banner on every Google service. 😬
Kinda feels like the opposite of how it should work, too. The people buying the most and supporting the video game industry get the worst deal. 😬
And age verification cropping up in more and more parts of the world

Technology@lemmy.world•Sextortion with a twist: Spyware takes webcam pics of users watching pornEnglish
27·1 year agoSurprised the UK age verification selfies haven’t been used to extort people yet. It’d be so easy (and is such an obvious reason why the law is bullshit).
SecurAge🛡️
“Log in with Google to verify your age.”“Sorry, we weren’t able to verify you using your Google Account. Please take a selfie for verification.”
“Now give us £1000, or we’ll send your picture and details of the porn you were trying to access to everyone in your contacts.”
