Not the same person, but to me there’s a different feel to the lingering fingerprint of a recent working memory and the memory of longer-term storage. It’s enough to matter.

I think that’s why this sort of phrase never made much sense to me, because in the same sense that the broken clock is right, a working clock with an offset (technically all of them) is almost never right (as you mention). Maybe it extends the metaphor, though, because while the working clock is never completely accurate, it’s much more useful by being closer to the truth the vast majority of the time.

And fewer moving parts means less expensive maintenance, generally. Granted, replacing a battery can get expensive, but if you’re not going all that far anyway, the battery’s range dropping from 400km to 200km after 12 years or so might not be a big deal. That said, the boots theory of socioeconomic unfairness might mean you’re stuck with ICE vehicles for a while if you can’t get a loan for a comparable amount of time.

Edit: after looking it up, that’s also assuming a worst case loss, average range is now roughly 460km, getting better, and it’s still at ~78% capacity 10 years later.

I think it’s because we’ve “solved boredom”. Sometimes with heavy, hectic, stressful events that come one after the other, sometimes with passive media, or algorithmically generated media, or doomscrolling: shows, clips, or posts designed to engage or entertain, other times with little clicker, distraction-style games; all of it seems to just drain every last drop of dopamine anyone can muster until there’s no room for anyone to have volition of their own. It tends to put a damper on the amount of time and energy one has for more longer meaningful interactions, and you end up almost, but not quite, completely content to microdose human interaction with single-serving friends by making comments on posts like this one (or the various parasocial interactions with internet micro-celebrities, or much worse, hallucinating a meaningful conversation with a statistically probable paragraph generator like the ones in the post).

There’s some evidence Eostre (or Ostara, Austra, definitely Aušrinė in Lithuania) was worshipped, but the evidence is scant and mostly based on linguistic reconstruction by Grimm in the 19th century. There is evidence of votive offerings to the “Austriahenae” (a collection of matron goddesses) discovered in 1958, but little else.

It’s a nice idea, but eggs were associated with the Christian Easter (Pascha in Latin, which is roughly the name for Easter in most countries that celebrate it), probably as a custom from Persia going through to what’s now Eastern Orthodoxy and from there to Catholics/Protestants as a way to celebrate the end of Lent (eggs being prohibited during that time). It’s still possible it was also Pagan and forgotten, decorating eggs is at least 60k years old, but its association with Easter was only (re-?) initiated through Christianity.

While the other commenter’s post seems valid, an alternative that worked for me was: 1) acquire wife, 2) give her the support and freedom in your personal journeys to become witches together, then (optional) 3) make spooky noises together.

There are a lot of binary packages in Gentoo, for the bigger packages (like LibreOffice), plus you can just use a binary repo if you want. I’ve been on Gentoo a while now, it’s pretty fun and I like all the customization even though I know the relatively minor efficiencies don’t make up for the compile times lol.
