Futurology@futurology.today•As the US sabotages the globe's fossil fuel infrastructure, in China BYD's latest Blade batteries charge from 10–97% in nine minutes, and have a range of 1,000 km (640 miles).English
3·6 months agoI can agree with all of that, well reasoned.

21·6 months agoFair, but a battery designed for vehicles with a known energy density can be easily described as having a range, because it currently has one primary application.

Technology@lemmy.world•You probably can't trust your password manager if it's compromisedEnglish
1·7 months agoEdit, sorry, misread your comment, my reply was irrelevant.

Technology@lemmy.world•You probably can't trust your password manager if it's compromisedEnglish
1·7 months agoBut currently all my passwords are in password store. Looking into alternatives. I like the idea of keepass because it’s still local. But I also pay for proton, so might use theirs. They weren’t susceptible in the recent attacks

Technology@lemmy.world•You probably can't trust your password manager if it's compromisedEnglish
1·7 months agoThis is about to go belly up IIRC. openPGP is infighting, splitting into two projects, password-store hasn’t been updated in a decade. It’ll lose compatibility.

Technology@lemmy.world•You probably can't trust your password manager if it's compromisedEnglish
3·7 months agoThat’s why I liked password store, no servers, just my encrypted password files on my own computer, that I sync over to my other devices.
Apparently it’s dying soon through, so I need an alternative.

Technology@lemmy.world•Ring cancels its partnership with Flock Safety after surveillance backlashEnglish
5·7 months agoToo late
Yeah, I generally only use the CLI for moving files if I need root access to the origin or destination folders.

Technology@lemmy.world•Why are people disconnecting or destroying their Ring cameras?English
31·7 months agoThis isn’t referring to the flock thing, they put out a commercial in the Superbowl about creating a cam-network to help find lost pets.

2·7 months agoMe and my people are moving to stoat. They’re having some growing pains right now, but I’m sure it’ll smooth out.

Technology@lemmy.world•'What a great way to kill your community': Discord users are furious about its new age verification checks — and are now hunting for alternativesEnglish
3·7 months agoAs I understand it, you should be fine unless that server is doing 18+ stuff. Don’t verify, discord will assume you’re a teenager. I’m leaving because I don’t have any ties like that. Maybe you could convince the server to move elsewhere?

Linux@lemmy.ml•Coworker wants to try Linux with gaming, Bazzite or Mint?
11·7 months agoI just switched to bazzite a couple months ago after switching away from kubuntu. I love it, don’t expect I’ll ever go back, and I’m not interested in trying any others. It’s kind of a pain if you want to do things outside of gaming, due to the immutability of the os, but anything is still possible.
One thing I haven’t figured out yet is theming grub, nothing I’ve tried has stuck.
Purelymail is nice. Stupid cheap and really easy.

Technology@lemmy.world•Trump says TikTok should be tweaked to become “100% MAGA”English
1·11 months agoThe good “creators” to follow for news generally provide a summary in Tiktok, then if you want to verify or learn more they have additional information and sources in their other locations (substack is a big one)
I can generally tell if it’s AI generated, and if I have any suspicion then I try to find other reports and real sources via Google searches and whatnot. Like I didn’t believe the gold trump statue, or the trump and Epstein statue were real.

Technology@lemmy.world•Trump says TikTok should be tweaked to become “100% MAGA”English
13·11 months agoThere’s a great deal of real news that goes through the app. It’s the majority of the content I see.

I use nano for simple text edits, anything more and I use sublime, or code.
Used to develop c++ in emacs though, never got the benefit of VIM, super hard to use.
