I don’t have a Google account. I’ve had issues. The app for my CO2 sensor has the CHECK_LICENSE permission activated, which asks your phone for a Google account. I can’t use it with the new version of the apps. I’ve complained and the company responded that I should have a Google account so there is no issue. We shouldn’t need to make workarounds and bridges to use the gadgets we buy.

The alternative ROMS will be affected by this because many applications will require a Google account to function. There will be workarounds, but overall this effectively changes how the phone I spent my money on works: they are altering the terms of the deal.

Cool. But, which repair centre has the contract for bricked phones. In Europe only one place has the vendor key thing if you fuck up while flashing the device, they won’t let users or other repair places have it so I assume it works the same in the US.

If I needed a new phone, I might get one of these. Repairable phones are cool.

I’m very pleased and have been waiting years for this. The way I understand it is that they’re making marketing calls explicitly opt-in, and easy to opt-out of. The non-stop calls from marketing agents stopped on July 27 for me.

There was also another change about hidden numbers that happened not too long ago which reduced the number of calls by one or two per day.

There is a list of numbers depending on your region that were registered marketing numbers. I had a filter for those, but I don’t think I’ll need it anymore. Any number starting with 0162, 0163, 0270, 0271, 0377, 0378, 0424, 0425, 0568, 0569, 0948 or 0949 was spam so it was easy to filter.

The punishment will be interesting to see. There are plenty of ways to report spam. Back in 2007 they said the French would never stop smoking in public places, and they did and a few people got fined for testing what would happen. Same thing will happen with this.

Edit: it is $87,000 per call. Damn.

I was thinking about a shooting that happened in Norway. Some of the children called their parents. It didn’t stop anything horrible from happening, but they left the world knowing they were loved.

I think this is a tough one to weigh in on depending where you come from. If I lived somewhere where the news talked about school shootings a lot, I might want my child to have a phone.

Go after the companies making addictive applications instead.

The videos promote child abuse and invite you to join a Telegram group to have access to it. So, that’s bad, and also sounds like a honeypot.

I live in France but visited Canada recently, I was able to see the main story but not all the bits before and after. The moment I landed back in France I received notifications for the 4 episodes I missed.

Not a big deal, really, but sometimes the news updates are very funny and balance out the heavier subject matter.

John Oliver’s show is free on YT outside of NA, hope that doesn’t change.

I can’t take articles like this seriously because the guy publishes up to 5 of them a day. I know that it is their job and they get advance copies to play before release day, and they have assistants.

Most any criticism of the show is true. I will say that it is a good series to watch with people who haven’t watched Star Trek before because it is a little un-Trek-ish and there is less to stop and explain. Also, since the mission is top secret it has little overlap with anything except SNW.

As a Star Trek fan, I was happy to get more Trek, the same as I was happy to get more Picard (that S2 was a pain though!), Lower Decks, Prodigy, and even the Short Treks.

My wife was pulled into the world of Star Trek by Discovery (a full 36 years after I’d started watching the franchise) and now she loves it and wants to watch all of the other series. So, Discovery gets a point for that.

(I haven’t seen Section 31 yet. It is supposed to be very bad.)
