No, they dumped them and got much nicer and less judgemental people in their lives. Sucks that you won’t experience that type of growth anytime soon if your replies are anything to go by.
Good luck with being a victim or whatever you’re trying.

Baffles me. and by people I mean, mostly women. Most men think my place is plenty spacious and great.
This is so weird, because I also have anecdotes about lots of women who live in 500sqft studios and love it, and their male partners/friends judge them for not having more space because they can’t stay over or “party” there. My roommate’s ex-boyfriend was like this, and we lived in a 2bed/2.5bath.
It’s as if you’ve surrounded yourself with assholes, and decided it’s a gendered problem.
I got vertigo just looking at this picture.

The “discount” “+$100” 💀

I wonder if this related to the uptick of the focus on cultural/artistic “taste” I’ve been noticing in the tech sphere (including in this very Wired article).
For context: I had an interview with a tech company that’s a secondary player in the AI sphere, and they asked me about Pierre Bourdieu and my “Pinterest aesthetic preferences” of all things. Very wtf moment.

The article isn’t paywalled.
But also, a Lemmy user not knowing how to skip paywalls/clear their cookies to avoid paywalls seems incongruous in my mind, idk why.

It’s so blatant too, for anyone with half a brain. We’re part of 5 Eyes, there’s like 97 data centres being built or already in the late stages of approval here, and all of our internet traffic is controlled by 3 mega ISPs in moustache and glasses. We’re already being tracked pretty thoroughly. Conservatives or Liberals, it doesn’t matter when it comes to selling Canadians off to foreign corporate entities.
Sorry, I was unclear. I meant the layoffs were related to replacing pandemic hires working from home with cheaper H1Bs willing to RTO/take cheaper salaries, since by then everyone was boostered up and ready for travel, and visa applicationswere actually being processed instead of “backlogged” (ignored) by Trump Admin 1.0.
Wasn’t this more related to the Trump era H1B limitations expiring under Biden around 2022? I may be misremembering the timeline since time after 2020 is fucked, but I swear I remember a greater uptick of H1B hires in tech around this time, as well as outsourcing teams to India.

It’s on Meta’s chatboard, not anywhere public. I saw people on Blind discussing it, if you have access there.

Idk how people think China is communist when they have for-profit hospitals, that’s like one of the biggest no-nos in communism lol.
Even the public hospitals are incentivized towards profit optimizing through over-prescription of medication (or useless stuff like homeopathy) in my experience. But last time I went through Chinese healthcare was all the way back in 2017, so things may have improved now (but I doubt it.)

Isn’t Nvidia only bumping up the price of the 5090s? Or is there an update to that?
We need the 80s coke back. Ketamine ain’t doing shit for us.

Praying for our cars to survive at least another 15 years, bud 🙏

Naaaaah, my 2016 RAV4 Hybrid is balling. Back up camera, 360 sensors, remote start, heated seats, medium screen with buttons and knobs instead of touch, push start, stick shift, and the best part: no wifi on-board (through my phone only). Cars peaked right here.

Learning about the Bermuda Triangle when I should have been learning about the Strait of Hormuz 😭
Yeah, this seems right. I had an easier time going through Brussels Zaventem during the September 2025 airport cyberattacks than I did Dallas-Fort Worth first week of this past January (before the TSA strike started). Even my straightest, cis-est, whitest, most American coworker (this is how he describes himself) got stopped and taken to a separate room for 40 minutes, and then we got rebooked to a flight two days later with no hotel accommodations, and no car. The cherry on top was having to do the whole security dance in full all over again.
Fun.
