As a Vivaldi user, I found that no other browser works as well for me, as Vivaldi does. I can’t imagine life without browser workspaces, sync, vertical tabs on the desktop, and a mobile tab bar at the bottom.

The closest alternative is either Floorp or Zen, with mobile Firefox and Sync, but I found Vivaldi is just smoother and a better and more well-integrated user experience for me.

I can confirm I’m a newer user (not a normie) to Nextcloud and I don’t know or really care what it uses because it works so I haven’t had to learn what it is or how to debug it.

Yeah, they’re holding back PopOS 24.04 because they want to release it together with COSMIC. Though at this rate, COSMIC will be out not long before 26.04, so idk what they’ll do there.

I agree, and COSMIC aims to reach Mint level and stay there. Settings have continuously improved (like everything else), and the main feature of COSMIC is tiling (regular people don’t care about written-in-Rust or Wayland-only). I can’t wait to see major settings/features appear with the next release, like Night Light. For now, I just want to see it stabilise fully and reach release.

Yeah, I’m waiting for River 0.4.0 and I can’t wait to try it out and hack around with it. I’d love to add “a Custom WM for River” to my project portfolio.

I can think of one: Excel Macros. If this had come out before May 2022, it would have saved me from needing to dual boot for a single assignment where I needed to do data analysis using Excel just two months after switching to Linux. It was literally around 2 hours of work, or less, and the entire dual boot setup took a similar time.

I REALLY want to try PlaMo, but I wish I could use Mobile Linux on my phone. I can’t, but oh if I could, or if I could run PlaMo on Android, it would’ve been great. I once even “riced” my phone to look like Plasma Mobile.

The issue with that approach for the desktop is everyone will just move to other OS-es.

Hey, I used Void and had a great time with it, I loved the speed of xbps and acter I got used to it, the minimal nature of runit felt lile a breath of fresh air (which feels weird in retrospect, as I’ve never had any issues with systemd). The only problem I had (other than getting used to xbps and runit) was pipewire. As I was using a tiling WM, I couldn’t figure out what was happening and why, but I was having serious issues with pipewire and wireplumber not working, until through trial and error I finally managed to fix it but by then I was already set on moving to Fedora (again). That was in April btw.

TLDR: I’d recommend it. XBPS and Runit are new (and pretty good) and take a bit to get used to, but the thing that drove me away was pipewire issues.

I really like the idea of user-friendly selfhosting (which is essentially what this company is offering, I mean hell, I’ve had similar business ideas floating around in my head too) BUT any company that has:

1. an in-the-know marketing team

2. Any employees that are somewhat technical enough (which should be guaranteed for a company with this sort of product

3. NOT a scam

Would know what a HUGE risk reputation-wise it is to showcase crypto-related selfhosting on the FRONT page. It’s like a “build-a-red-flag” or “destroy-our-reputation” speedrun. Even IF you want to offer this, anyone in-the-know with at least 3 braincells would bury this deep in the page and make it difficult to find (if they were well-intentioned in the first place) because at this point anything crypto, especially being the main offering, is a huge red flag.

If instead, they offered a nextcloud instance, for example, or Pihole as an adblocker, or some other good and common services, maybe a selfhosted VPN (or maybe not, because of the stupid and misleading ads of VPN companies), they would be seen as 100% more legit.
