DNS is just gonna be like that, I’m afraid. Unless there’s some other mechanism I’m not aware of, either updating your IP in your records or having a Dynnamic DNS setup is gonna be necessary.

I’m lucky enough that my ISP has a relatively long lease time and doesn’t care to change my IP a lot, so I don’t really mind updating mine manually the few times a year that becomes necessary.

My guess is that understanding language is just a brain thing, and formulating and speaking language is a brain and motor skills thing

The major benefit is using KOReader instead of Amazon’s reader. Main benefit of that is configurability in my opinion. I’m new to full-time use, so I’m not aware of everything it’s capable of, but it’s already way better. My headline features are direct connection to Calibre over the network, and the lack of any marketing to me whatsoever. My nice-to-haves are arbitrary lockscreen images, Wallabag support (have yet to explore this, but looks real fun), and the built-in RSS reader.

Other than that, jailbreaking gives me the ability to fully disable ads and OTA updates.

Everything else is pretty much toys and eye candy. KOReader is the main thing from what I can tell.

Recently bought a kindle at a thrift store, which was perfect as it was on an old firmware, perfect for jailbreaking.

Now I’ve got a nice e-reader, never gave money to Amazon for the pleasure, not even using their software now. Easily the best $8 I ever spent.

I don’t know about dnf, but pacman doesn’t do this by default. The only way to hold back packages is by writing it in the configuration.

Yeah, my partner’s kid really enjoys being the one to read out board game instructions, and it’s …not the best way for me to absorb information…

Also, this is antithetical to the purpose of Windows when it comes to backwards compatibility. Remember that one of its main selling points is the ability to run old programs, regardless of what version it originally targeted.

Believe it or not, the industry would probably start a riot if ms breaks that paradigm. It’s like, one of the main reasons that it has the market-share that it does.

I’m also a steam controller lover, and I feel you on the build quality point, but just remember that this new one is going to be built post-steam-deck. The lessons from the steam controller funnel into the steam deck, and the lessons from the steam deck will funnel into the new steam controller.
